In and around the town

Moving at a slower pace after yesterday! Visited the Munch Museum in Oslo this morning, my first visit since the security renovations that followed the big art theft a few years ago. There is also currently an exhibit of works by the Austrian artist Egon Schiele. It's hard to imagine two more obvious examples of "tortured artist" than these two. Munch influenced Schiele as I understand it; they do seem to have a lot in common when it comes to subject matter. You can only imagine how shocking and controversial their work must have been in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The museum provides a beautiful space in Toyen, near the Botanical Gardens. The gardens look inviting but there did not seem to be much point in visiting since the day's been pretty overcast and cold. We walked around Grønland instead, looking for a good place to eat and ended up at Cafe Sara, eating grilled mideastern-style vegetables with "kornris" (corn-rice), which turns out to be large-grain cous cous (yummy).

In the meantime, I am inserting a couple of links I want to save to put in my link list later on.
